I love you.
What do those words mean?
REALLY mean?
A wonderful and very dear pastor once told me the true definition of love is:
My God given power of choice to do that which is in the best interest of another, regardless of how I may feel.
I have lived with that definition in my heart, but it wasn't until this morning, I understood its true meaning.
You see, I am currently right in the middle of a women's retreat weekend, and sweetness is everywhere. It's easy to feel drunk in the love of our Savior here, but getting sleep is another matter. The bed is uncomfortable as it was built for a child so much smaller and lighter than me.
So we talk, my Lord and I.
It wasn't until just a few moments ago I learned about my love for Him.
"I love you, Lord" I whispered. It was then the Holy Spirit spoke. I love it when that happens!
He said "do you?" "Yes!" was my fast and confident answer. "How do you know?"
I was terrified for a moment. How do I know. How do I know?? What do I feel for God? Wasn't it a short 5 hours ago I was blinking my eyes to hold back the tears because the speaker had spoken something so profound it went right into the deepest part of my heart? Isn't that love?
No.
What is love?
My God given power of choice to do that which is in the best interest of another regardless of how I may feel.
Oh. OH!!! Yes!!! I love you, Lord! Wait. Now, this is where life is about to get real for me.
Sometimes, I don't want to spend time serving those who are considered unloveable. If we are God's children, and we love Him, we will serve or care for or sit with anyone He chooses. Anyone. Even if we have already chosen on our own we shouldn't interact with them.
Regardless of how I may feel.
That's love.
We have spent too much time trying to love the unloveable but that isn't the point. It never was. The point is to truly love our Heavenly Father, to love Jesus and to love the Holy Spirit who tells us their bidding. Then we simply do it. Sometimes we will feel like we don't want to do it. We may be scared to do it, but we will do it. Because we love Him.
It is our love for Christ which puts our hands and feet in motion. Love for our fellow man is the second half. It will happen naturally because how can we not embrace what God has created and loved to Calvary and beyond?
Go ye therefore... okay, wonderful Savior, will do Holy Spirit, I'm on it Heavenly Father.
I love You.
Mathew 22:36-40:
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
