April the Giraffe and the Ten Virgins

I love that April! That wonderful Giraffe who has kept me watching her closely for two long months. I'm not the only one. There are others. We watch her closely. Any link we can get our hands on and we sit and watch for signs. Signs of her baby's soon arrival. I've enjoyed the teasing across the internet about this wonderful creature who has robbed us from sleep because we want to believe tonight is the night and we don't want to miss a thing! Memes have abounded how April wasn't really pregnant at all, and this was simply a trick to get us to watch a stall and wait for a babe.

Still I watched. Still I waited. My Mom would text me. "Has she had it yet? I can't find the link." I would quickly find the latest link and send it her way. Then we would watch. I watched so much and so long that I began to believe it was gonna be a lot longer than they originally thought. And it was. Two months longer! Of course I'd check in, but my time in the stall was getting shorter and shorter because my life had gotten suddenly too busy and I figured I'd get a text it was happening and jump in and watch it.

Then, something happened. Oh I couldn't stand it anymore! So tired. Must sleep. And I did. A good nights sleep deep enough to allow my body to relax and rest. I dreamed about boats, clowns, fairs, mountains, streams, popcorn, and old friends I no longer see with my eyes open.  My subconscious shut off the thoughts of April, her pregnancy, the stall, the camera, and even the memes. I was out for the count.

PING! What was that? I woke enough to pick up my phone. There was a message from my Mom. "April is having her baby." WHAT?!? I sat up. Where's my iPad? Where's the link. Oh no! I can't find it! Who's got it? I searched. I went to Facebook. Surely there would be talk about it there, but it seems others were dreaming of meaningful things in their life too. Oh! There. One lonely post with the link I was looking for. Clicking it as fast as I could, I got there just in time to see legs, two really good pushes and that little giraffe was suddenly in our world. What a miracle! April, already becoming a great mom, turned and did what giraffe's do to get their young ready for the big stand up and move around. Wow! My day is made. Thank you, Lord for letting me catch that!

Then His voice comes to me and tells me it's time for another blog. Okay, you've got it. Anything for You.

There were once ten virgins. Like me, they awaited an arrival. A bridegroom was on his way. They had lamps instead of iPads, but the wait for them was a long time too. They also fell asleep, and I wonder what their dreams were. Was it about the arrival, of puppies, or the newest clay pot? All ten were awakened by a midnight cry..."Here's the bridegroom!" Oh, the arrival had come!

I'm sure all ten jumped up straight away; however, only five had the extra jar of oil to keep their needed lights burning. The other five had to go in search of light and when they came back, they had missed the whole thing! No Facebook around to give them the link, no text to send to get the password in. They knocked on the door, but were turned away. "Truly I tell you, I don't know you."

Oh the devastation! Oh the wait I'm sure was long. Everyone drifted off to sleep. Only five were prepared.

Friends, there are some very important things in life we don't want to miss. Reading about a young woman in a stable with hay and a very important birth. A wedding filled with water and also wine. A Savior who died and rested on the Sabbath in a grave and rose from that same grave on the first day of the week to save us.  A giraffe named April and her little four legged joy. A soon coming King, who is going to take us home. I know you are tired. I know it's been so long. Are you starting to nod off to sleep? It's okay. Weariness sometimes overtakes us. Make sure you are prepared and ready. Have the iPad by your bed. Look for the signs. Get your link and don't lose it. He's coming. It's going to be very soon. I'm putting my oil in my jar and I love you and I want you to have a jar of your own. I can't share mine with you. This is something you have to do on your own. Let's be ready and we can go to meet Him together.

Mathew 25:10
"But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut."
